A Charleston pianist with a New Orleans heart and a sound that keeps finding new ground.
The music is the throughline
Nolan Tecklenburg is a nationally touring pianist from Charleston, South Carolina, whose sound is deeply influenced by the musical culture of New Orleans.
He began studying piano at age five and later attended Loyola University New Orleans. Immersed in the city’s jazz scene, he studied and performed alongside local musicians, shaping his approach through the energy and exchange of live music.
While in New Orleans, Nolan founded the septet NuSpeak, performing at venues including Tipitina’s. He also led his own trio around the city and performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
After graduating, he returned to Charleston and built a wide ranging performance career. His local stages include Forte Jazz Lounge, Charleston Place with Grammy Award winning bassist Kevin Hamilton, Charleston Music Hall, and venues throughout the region.
Over the years, he has built an extensive performance career across South Carolina, playing for a wide range of audiences and occasions. Today, he tours nationally with Big Something while continuing his own work as a pianist, composer, and bandleader.
